Anna Mae (Jerome) Greene
Anna Mae (Jerome) Greene died at age 96 at the Corn Heritage Village, Corn, OK on February 25, 2019. Anna Mae lived a long, healthy life centered around her husband, Charlie, their 5 children, and their farm in Healdton, OK.
Born June 13, 1922 in Ft. Smith, OK to Ora Lee and Nelle Jerome, Anna Mae attended Atlanta High School, Atlanta, TX where she met her classmate Charles Greene. They married while Anna Mae studied nursing at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans and Charlie was a new recruit in the Army Air Force. She loved nursing, and during her career as a Registered Nurse, worked at various hospitals in New Orleans, Perry, OK, and Southern Memorial Hospital of Ardmore (now Mercy Hospital Ardmore).
Anna Mae and Charlie moved to Las Vegas in 1968 where she worked at Sunrise Hospital while Charlie worked for the Atomic Energy Commission supervising the drilling for underground nuclear testing. They spent several years in Saudi Arabia with ARAMCO before retiring back to their 80 acre farm in Healdton.
Anna Mae was very involved in the Healdton Library system, attending State and Local meetings, and raising funds for the present site of the library. Anna Mae served as a Cub Scout and Brownie Leader, as well as 4-H leader and PTA board member. She taught Sunday School classes for adults at the First United Methodist Church. For many years, Anna Mae served in Eastern Star, and volunteered at the Healdton Hospital. She loved gardening, reading and sewing. To keep her mind and body sharp, she did crossword puzzles, played bridge, and bowled (her team won the State Championship when she was 70 years old!) Before entering the nursing home in Corn, Anna Mae was a regular at Healdton's Senior Citizen's center. She always brought a salad, earning her the title: Salad Lady, and usually stayed to play tile games with the group.
Anna Mae is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles H. Greene Sr., and her only sister, Betty (Jerome) Edgar of Perry, OK.
She leaves her 5 children: Charles H. Greene, Jr, and Colette of Cordell, OK; Betty B. Moore and Art of Duck Creek Village, UT; Jerri N Klein and Richard of Georgetown, TX; Peggy Greene-Barbier and Robert of Roseville, CA; Leah J Jones and Kevin of Annabella, UT; as well as 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 13 great, great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Corn Heritage Village, nurses, and staff for their kindness, love and care given to Anna Mae during her 5 years as a resident.
Service will be at the Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Healdton, OK on March 4 at 1:00 pm.
