Ben Franklin Shirley Jr., forty-six, of Bethany, Oklahoma, passed away May 12, 2008, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ben was born December 12, 1961. He grew up in the Wilson and Ringling, Oklahoma area and graduated from Ringling High School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged after three years. He went to work in the oilfields, working all over southern Oklahoma in many capacities as long as his health permitted. He then moved to Oklahoma City area where he lived for two years before his death. Ben was a member of Zaneis Baptist Church and he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Ben was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Horn, in 2003, a twin brother and sister George Clayton Shirley and Tamara Sue Shirley in 1965.
Survivors include: his parent - Ben Shirley, Sr. and Ione Shirley of Wilson, OK; one son Stephen Shirley of Wilson, OK; two daughters - Danielle Shirley of Wilson, OK, and Gabby Shirley of Oklahoma City, OK; two brothers - John Shirley of Gainesville, TX, and Kevin Stowers of Dallas,TX; three sisters - Cindy VanHoutte of Comanche, OK, Karen Manning of Lebanon, OK, and Holly Shirley of Wilson, OK; his grandmother Lavelle Shirley of Ringling, OK; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services for Mr. Shirley will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Zaneis Baptist Church with Rev. John Hatfield and Rev. Don Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery at a later date. Services are under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Healdton.
