Emery Luke Harris
Services for Emery Luke Harris, 94 of Healdton will be 1:00 Pm Saturday January 16, 2010 , at the First United Methodist Church in Healdton with Pastor Harold Hunt officiating, interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore . Services are under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home in Healdton.
Emery was born on May 9, 1915 in Ringling Ok. to Thomas W. and Jennie H. (Miller) Harris. He passed away on January 13, 2010 at an Ardmore hospital.
As a young boy Emery attended school at Cornish and Ringling. He enlisted in the US Army in 1942, serving in the 378th infantry as a combat scout. He was active in the European theater in 1944 and 1945 After being honorably discharged he returned to the states, settling in Healdton and working as a self employed carpenter. He married Ruby Taylor on June 23, 1956 in Healdton. Together they owned and operated Harris Lumber Yard until retiring in 1976. Emery and Ruby donated the land for the Healdton Municipal Library to be built. He was a faithful Christian that served the Lord in every opportunity he was given. There are no words to describe his love of gardening, he truly felt the need to raise vegetables and give them to his friends. He also enjoyed fishing whenever he got the chance. Emery was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby, and still born twins.
He is survived by 2 sisters, Mary Hall, Ardmore and Eddythe McCallister, Osage Missouri
2 brothers, Paul and wife Jo Harris, Pall City, Alabama and Tom Harris, Sulphur, Ok. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
