Services for Gene Wesley Shultz will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Healdton First Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Sons-in-law Reverend Jerry Jones and Ralph Hickman will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery. At the time of his death Gene resided in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Gene was born in Hobart, Oklahoma, on August 21, 1928, to John Wesley Shultz and Renetha (Nettie) Glaseman Shultz. As a child he also lived in Rolla, Kansas; Burns Flat, Oklahoma; Sentinel, Oklahoma and finally Cordell, Oklahoma where he graduated high school. Gene's father, uncles and even one aunt were all barbers, so as a young boy Gene worked as a shoe shine boy and also at the naval air base in Burns Flat. He graduated from Cordell High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. After one year of service and being stationed in Japan he entered into barber school and finished in 1948. He moved to Healdton in 1949 to work at Parker's Barber Shop. He later barbered with Harold Charles in their own shop for 19 more years until he went to the work for the Healdton Post Office in the late 1960's, from which he retired in the mid-1990's. However, he returned to barbering by opening his own shop in downtown Healdton but finally closed that shop in 2009 and moved to Guthrie after having lived in Healdton for 60 years.

He loved the Lord and was baptized at Healdton First Baptist Church, where he remained active for many years. Gene often sang in the choir and periodically led music in church and at the nursing home. He took his family on many trips across the U.S. As a young man he enjoyed cars and photography. In later years his hobbies were singing and collecting stamps and coins. He married Patricia Ann Morgan from Ratliff City in 1949. Together they had two daughters and were married for 30 years before Pat's death in 1980. He married Linda Whitehurst Wilson in 1981.

Gene is preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Shultz, mother Renetha (Nettie) Glaseman Shultz, step-mother Lela Shultz, step-sister Adeen Blagowsky, first wife Patricia Morgan Shultz and great-grandson Logan Matthew. He is survived by wife Linda of the home, daughters Jo Ellen Hall of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Paula Mooty of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Christi Hickman of Cushing, Oklahoma; Lisa Harper of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Jeribeth Jones of Gainesville, Texas. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers are Sons-in-law Dale Harper and Jerry Jones; grandsons Trey Harper, Charles Andrew Hickman, and Brandon Jones; and great-grandson Nathan Coleman.
