Thomas Lee Tom Mumford

Thomas Lee Tom Mumford, eighty-four, of Fox, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, September 18, 200, at the Ardmore, Oklahoma Hospital. Tom was born July 14, 1924, in Dougherty, Oklahoma, to James Taylor and Rachel Clement Mumford. Tom was raised in the Pauls Valley Oklahoma area where he attended school. He married Louise Cora Cowan January 2, 1959, in Gainesville, Texas, and they made their home in Fox, where they raised their family. Prior to his marriage Tom pulled cotton, cut broom corn and worked construction in Greensburg, Kansas. After he and Louise married he worked seventeen years for Lone Star Gas company in Pauls Valley and Fox, and four and one-half years for Rust Energy, building the Uniroyal tire plant. He then was sel- employed in the oil field, worked for Sam Creel Oilfield and then worked for Deon Hughes Trans Continental as a pumper the rest of his life. Tom loved to raise show hogs, chickens and enjoyed coon hunting. He also enjoyed coaching little league baseball, and watching his grandchildren show their stock in the FFA. He loved to raise a big garden where he gave away more than he kept. He was also an FFA Booster.  

Tom was preceded in death by two sons, Rickey Mumford and Jeffery Mumford, one daughter Lindy Mumford, one sister; Marie Cheatham and three brothers, Ray, James and Bill Mumford.

Survivors include: his wife Louise Cora Cowan Mumford of the home in Fox, OK; three sons - Jimmy Mumford of Fox, OK, Bobby Mumford of Graham, OK, and Johnny Mumford of Denton, TX; two daughters - Tammy Smith of Fox, OK, and Sherry Mumford of Fox, OK; nine grandchildren - Amber, Lacey, Alisha, Payton, Kasey, Jesseka, Dillon, Dalton, and Jesse; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Mumford will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 22, 2008, at Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Healdton, Oklahma, with Bro. Mike Johnston and Bro. Carl Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Ratliff City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fox Baptist Church or Crosstimbers Hospice.
